This is our last class together. You are a great class and have accomplished much.

The final exam is held on Tuesday, 1 June 12:00 – 2:30 pm

There are questions on GeoGebra and spreadsheets. Be sure you are familiar with these concepts.

It has been a great year. I am very pleased with this class. You work well, try new things and are fun to be with. Well done. All the best for your future.

Semester II Day 35 — Presentations and Extension Activity

Grade 9 students are to hand in their presentations. We will watch them in class today.

Students need to show Mr Richard their character head from our Blender project.

We only have five classes left. We will use one for review for the final exam. In the remaining four classes, students will choose an extension exercise to 3D design. We will probably run out of time, but since the software is free, you can always complete the projects on your own.

Here are your choices:

SketchUp
- complete the NIS campus. The other buildings need not have great detail. We can borrow some work from other classes as well. You have started this project already.
Blender –> on your computers (My Documents –> Class Files –> Blender Part IV) there are a number of folders. I have loaded materials for you to learn more about Blender. Students may choose to follow the tutorials for the following:

- Mechanic — box model for creating a character
- Porsche – create a car model
- … or create an animation from an existing model. We will discuss this in class

Semester II, Days 31 – 33 –> Independent Study

Mr Richard will not be at school this week. Students are expected to continue their work. Here are your tasks:

presentations must be completed
when you are finished your presentation, you have the following task:

Complete the NIS Campus in SketchUp.

On your computers My Documents –> Class Files –> Grade 9 –> NIS Campus Kit … you will find the two buildings we completed.

Start with either the High School or Wooden building

Turn off all unnecessary layers. You only need the foundation

Two students go out and get a rough estimate of how many meters the buildings are apart. You may use Google Maps to get a reference.

Students should divide the work and share results. Create the auditorium, gym, store and pool. Use layers to turn off complete buildings to avoid lag.

In the end, everyone will have a completed NIS Campus.

This is a lot of work. Students must use their time wisely. Be good, work hard and I will see you next week.

PS, if students want to update SketchUp, the installation files on a couple of the new computers. You may use it to update.

Semester II, Day 30 — Finalize Presentations

Today is the last period for working on your presentations. If you have it finished, transfer the presentation to the computer with the projector. Make sure it works.

Next day we will watch the presentations.

Semester II, Day 27 — Use your time wisely, make an excellent presentation

Students are encouraged to use their time wisely. You have class time to conduct research and prepare your presentations. It is important for you to use this time well. It saves you doing it for homework!

Remember to ask classmates for help.

You will present your findings to the whole class after Songkran.

Semester II, Day 25 — Presentations Skills and Course Content

Students are reminded to send in their last GeoGebra assignments today for assessment.

We begin a new topic in class today. Students will select a topic, conduct research and present their findings to the class. This unit of study aims to help you develop your presentation skills and cover content for the course. Your classmates will learn from your presentations.

We will discuss possible topics for your presentations in class and come up with a list. We will take a look at some sample presentations to get ideas of the possibilities.

Presentations for Computer Class Guidelines:

You may work in pairs or alone – not three or more
The presentation should stand on its own – you should not need to explain anything
Research, research, research please. We want to learn.
Include facts, useful information, content
Make it entertaining and fun — original
Use sound, images, words …

Presentation Tools you may consider:

CamStudio or other desktop video capture
Digital camera or video cam
Windows Movie Maker or other easy video editing application
Presentation software such as Google docs, Open Office Present or PowerPoint
Website (remember you all have a WordPress site)

Semester II, Day 24 — Amazing Math Nerds!

Last day, students in grade 9 produced a dynamic model of a musical note. Hmm, … I think this is a little bit beyond grade 9. You are amazing. This is proof you can do anything you want to. We will complete two more models today and that will end our unit of study on math software.

We will leave this unit on creating dynamic math models for other projects. You have a number of tools you can use now. Our next unit of study will put these together to cover some content in the course.

Semester II, Day 23 — Each Model Worth 2 Marks

Class, as we progress through our study guide on GeoGebra, students are to submit each model we create to niscomputers@gmail.com The models are worth 2 marks. One for completing it, and one if it is correct. So far, students who have done this are earning an ‘A’ in this unit of study.

We will continue to progress through the GeoGebra workbook.

Semester II, Day 22 — GeoGebra … becoming a math nerd!

Today we begin a new unit of study. We will learn how to use GeoGebra. GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software that combines geometry, algebra and calculus. For our purposes, we will not learn math in our class. We will learn how to use this program to help us learn mathematics.

The idea behind GeoGebra is to combine manipulations on the spreadsheet view, the algebra view or the geometry view. You can enter formulas right out of your math book, or draw in geometry area.

You are all going to become math nerds! You will be surprised how easy this is to do.
